Day camp includes a week-long, full day program with rotations of Specialty Theme Activities, Arts & Crafts, Sports & Wellness, Nature & Gardening, and group time at Johnson School's Playgrounds.
New Specialty Themes offer campers a chance to dig deeper into their interests. By building these directly into our schedule, children can explore themes at developmentally appropriate levels without losing out on other 'traditional' camp activities.
Each week we will focus on a different big idea, which will incorporate problem solving, teamwork, and skill building activities with guided support from camp professionals. For a calendar of themes each week, see the Quick Calendar at the top of this page, or head directly to the Family Portal to choose your child's weeks.

A session as a CIT is the perfect way for future camp counselors, teachers, or babysitters to develop skills early with the guidance of experienced professionals.
Throughout a two week session, Counselors in Training will receive a condensed version of our staff training, followed by pairing with a group counselor for hands-on experience. CITs will learn group management strategies, lead activities alongside counselors, and practice 'behind the scenes' elements of a childcare setting such activity planning and setup. CITs will have plenty of fun, too, as they prepare to transition from camper to counselor!
Following our Specialty Themes, CITs will help campers to dig deeper into their interests. CITs are asked to make a 2 week commitment in order to experience a varied range of training, activities, themes, and social environments. We understand the need for continued childcare for young teens who are not interested in spending time with younger children-- if that's what you need, we encourage you to explore other local options. Island Roots CITs are committed to gaining experience and becoming leaders.
